Markus Lüpertz (born 1941 in Liberec, Bohemia) is one of the most significant contemporary German artists. Since the 1960s, he has shaped painting and printmaking in Europe and beyond with his distinctive style.

Lüpertz became known as a representative of Neo-Expressionism and as one of the "Neue Wilde" (New Wild Ones). His work is characterized by a powerful visual language that balances between abstraction and figuration. He repeatedly draws on themes from mythology, literature, and history, translating them into monumental, color-intensive compositions.

In addition to painting, printmaking also plays a central role in his oeuvre. In etchings, lithographs, and woodcuts, he re-explores the possibilities of classical techniques and proves that printmaking can be an experimental as well as expressive medium.

From 1988 to 2009, Lüpertz served as rector of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, influencing an entire generation of artists. His works are represented in numerous renowned museums and collections and are shown in international exhibitions.

With Kubus & Kugel, a portion of his graphic work is made accessible in the form of limited editions and unique pieces – carefully curated, authentic, and equally approachable for collectors and the curious.
